FAQ

What will my first visit be like?
During your first visit we will discuss your current health, your medical and social history, and your treatment goals.  The session will last about 1 1/2 - 2 hours and also includes a needle treatment.  Please wear comfortable clothing, avoid wearing make-up and heavily scented products, and be sure to eat something before your session.  Caffeinated drinks, alcohol, and intense physical activity should be avoided immediately before and after treatment in order to allow the body to fully receive the benefits of acupuncture.

What is the cost?
First session, intake and treatment: $125
Subsequent treatments: $75

Cash, Checks, and Credit Card accepted
Insurance accepted

How often do I visit?
The effects of acupuncture are cumulative.  Coming in once or twice is rarely beneficial for the same reason that going to the gym once or twice will not yield lasting and noticeable results.  Depending on your individual needs and goals, it is typically appropriate to come in weekly for 6-8 weeks, while others may benefit from treatment 2-3 times per week initially.  After that, treatments can be spaced out to two weeks, three weeks, four weeks and eventually seasonally, or whenever your body needs a tune-up.  Since acupuncture can change and move imbalance before it solidifies in the body and becomes symptomatic, it is beneficial to receive treatment as part of a regular self-care regime.

What about the needles?
The needles are small and flexible, only about the width of a few human hairs.  They do not compare to the Western medical, hollow bore syringes used for injections and drawing fluid from the body.  Only sterile, single use needles are used.

Does acupuncture hurt?
Sensations experienced during needling range from person to person.  Some feel nothing at all, while others may experience a slight tingling, a dull ache, and rarely, a slight sting that lasts only a few seconds.  Often the needles are left in for about 10 - 20 minutes while you rest quietly.  Most people find the experience deeply relaxing.

Do you take insurance?
A growing number of insurance companies will reimburse for acupuncture treatments.  I am currently a provider through several insurance companies.  Please contact me to find out whether I currently accept your insurance and what your benefits are.
